Raghunath Temple is old temple constructed in 17th century in Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh state of north India. It was built by Raja Jagat Singh of Kullu who dedicated the temple to Raghunath Ji or Lord Rama, who is main deity of the Kullu Valley. It is an important pilgrimage place for many devotees who come and visit the temple and it is also one of the popular destinations for tourists visiting the area of Kullu and Manali. Practically there is not much to see except Raghunath Ji Temple directly in Kullu, that is why this temple usually link Kullu with it.
Raghunath Temple was built in altitude of more than 2000 meters and from the temple complex one can admire wonderful views over the area. You can see the panorama consisting of glorious mountains, steep gorges and greenery all around. From the top of the temple you can see Kullu Town and its valley.

The most important part of the year for Raghunath Ji Temple and main attraction is Dussehra festival held annually in Kullu. It attracts crowds of devotees and many tourists who want to see Kullu changing into colorful place. Dussehra festival lasts for 7 days and it displays traditions, history and culture behind this amazing event. In Kullu Dussehra starts after it is finished in other parts of India and this occasion dates back to 17th century and period of King Jagat Singh. During the festival, famous chariot of Raghunath Ji Temple is taken to the public on the first day of Dussehra, when local people pull it with ropes from its usual fixed spot and whole 7 days celebration is just splendid occasion. After that Raghunath Ji is taken back to the temple. It is very impressive to see devotees and processions, idols and all the colors that decorate the town during Dussehra. There is also international dance festival organized in Kullu during the festival time and people can enjoy cultural activities and cultural show in open theater at Dhalpur.
How to get to Raghunath Ji Temple
Raghunath Ji Temple is one of the main attractions of Kullu. From the center of Kullu it is only 1.5 km away. You can easily hire a cab to come there or you can take a walk. From Manali you can reach Kullu by taxi or you can use regular bus service connecting Kullu with Manali. Distance between Manali and Raghunath Ju Temple is approximately 40km. The closest airport is around 10 km away from Kullu. It lies in Bhuntar and it is commonly known as Kullu – Manali airport.
